Mexico Repatriates Six Citizens Detained After Gaza Aid Flotilla Interception

The group has left Israel for Amman after consular negotiations, with Mexican diplomats escorting their return to Mexico City.

Overview

  • The Foreign Ministry said the six — Sol González Eguía, Ernesto Ledesma Arronte, Arlín Medrano Guzmán, Carlos Pérez Osorio, Diego Vázquez Galindo, and Laura Alejandra Vélez Ruiz Gaitán — were transferred to Amman and are en route to Mexico City.
  • Israel authorized the repatriation following consular visits at the Ketziot detention center, where Mexican officials also arranged needed medication.
  • Ambassadors Mauricio Escanero (Israel) and Jacob Prado (Jordan) received the group in Amman and will accompany the journey home under a protection protocol.
  • The detainees were held after Israel intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters during its attempt to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
  • Mexico thanked Jordan for facilitating entry, as broader deportations of flotilla participants continue, including 171 activists flown to Europe according to Israeli statements.
