Mexico Renews Anti-Inflation PACIC, Keeping 24-Item Basic Basket at 910 Pesos for Six Months

Government and business leaders signed a voluntary price pact they say protects purchasing power, with official monitoring showing the covered basket’s average cost fell over the past year.

Overview

  • President Claudia Sheinbaum signed the renewal at Palacio Nacional with 20 producing companies and 12 supermarket chains participating.
  • The agreement is a voluntary reference-price scheme for 24 essential items across participating retailers rather than a statutory price control.
  • Profeco’s tracking shows the monitored basket’s average price fell from 886.50 pesos in November 2024 to 845 pesos in October 2025, a 4.7% nominal decline.
  • Finance Secretary Édgar Amador Zamora said PACIC has contained price pressures and cited an estimated real reduction of about 3.4% from holding the basket price over the year.
  • Business leaders from the CCE endorsed the renewal, and INEGI reports October inflation at 3.57% even as underlying inflation remains above Banxico’s 3% target.
