Mexico Regulator Approves 2026 Spectrum Plan, Setting Up 600 MHz 5G Bidding

Publication in January would trigger a bidding process under a framework that reserves broadcast capacity for social use.

Overview

  • The CRT unanimously approved the 2026 Annual Program for Use and Exploitation of Frequency Bands, which takes effect upon publication in the Official Gazette.
  • The plan includes the 600 MHz band for wireless access to facilitate 5G deployment nationwide.
  • It adds the 10 GHz and 37 GHz bands for fixed wireless to enable high‑capacity, low‑latency transport links in urban and suburban areas.
  • The program schedules 52 broadcast concessions for 2026: 21 AM (7 commercial, 14 social), 19 FM (6 commercial, 9 public, 4 social) and 12 digital TV channels (4 commercial, 4 public, 4 social).
  • The program reserves up to 10% of FM and AM for social, community, indigenous and afromexican uses and opens a 30‑business‑day window after publication to request added bands or coverages via an online form.
