Mexico Regulator Approves 2026 Spectrum Plan, Paving Way for 5G and Broadcast Auctions

The CRT targets January publication of its licensing plan to launch the first spectrum tenders under the new agency.

Overview

  • The plan brings the 600 MHz band into the 5G licensing pool to expand coverage with lower site density.
  • It also earmarks 10 GHz and 37 GHz for fixed wireless links to support high‑capacity, low‑latency transport.
  • The regulator indicates January 2026 for publishing the licitation plan, with auctions slated to begin thereafter.
  • Broadcasting availability totals 52 concessions in 2026: 21 AM (7 commercial, 14 social), 19 FM (6 commercial, 9 public, 4 social), and 12 TV channels (4 commercial, 4 public, 4 social).
  • Up to 10% of FM 88–108 MHz and AM 1605–1705 kHz remains reserved for community, indigenous and afromexican social use, and stakeholders have 30 business days to propose additional bands or coverage.
