Mexico Registry Reaches 91.8 Million Linked Mobile Lines as Suspensions Continue

The phased CRT program links numbers to verified IDs to cut anonymous fraud and to clear millions of inactive SIMs.

Overview

  • The CRT, which reported on Sunday Oct. 4, said the national registry had linked 91,850,448 lines, equal to about 76.5% of the universe it expects to register.
  • For numbers ending in 3 the authority recorded 9,851,807 linked lines, or 87.3% of that block, and telecoms have already reactivated 1,213,717 suspended lines after users completed the linking process.
  • The CRT said it added roughly 5,289,063 linked lines between Sept. 19 and Oct. 4, averaging about 352,600 registrations per day as the staggered calendar advances toward the next deadline for digits ending in 4 on Oct. 15.
  • Suspended lines are not deleted while inactive; they can still call emergency and civic numbers, receive seismic alerts, and are restored immediately once a user completes identity verification via operator apps, portals, or in-person customer centers using an official ID and camera validation.
  • Authorities expect the exercise to depurate roughly 2.5 million disused lines in the '3' block and about 25 million inactive SIMs nationwide, a move that could remove promotional or visitor-only chips and reduce anonymous numbers used in fraud.
