Mexico Recovers 960 Hectares of Nayarit Coast in Long-Running Land Fraud Case

Officials say constitutionally protected funds will now manage the recoveries to prevent future misuse.

Overview

  • State and federal authorities reported reclaiming 9,619,454 m² of Pacific coast land, a portfolio the governor values at more than $2.7 billion, with the operation about 92% complete.
  • Investigators allege the FIBBA trust was used to simulate contracts from 2005 to 2017, with ex-governors Roberto Sandoval in custody and Ney González subject to an arrest warrant.
  • A judge approved the securing of 359 bank accounts holding approximately 7,213,050,746 pesos, alongside seizures of subdivisions, condominium towers, shopping plazas and parcels in Bahía de Banderas and Compostela.
  • The probe began in 2022 after a complaint by FIBBA and has been led jointly by the FGR and Nayarit prosecutors with financial tracing support from SHCP and SAT.
  • Authorities say the recovered assets are being consolidated into FOSONN and a retirement savings fund under a public‑private model intended to channel investment and social benefits.
