Mexico Records 394 Feminicides in First Seven Months of 2025

Cases cluster in a few states and municipalities, highlighting investigative gaps flagged by rights groups.

Overview

  • Five entities account for about one-third of cases: Estado de México (36), Chihuahua (26), Sinaloa (24), Morelos (22) and Mexico City (21), according to SESNSP.
  • Twenty municipalities concentrate 25.8% of incidents, led by Culiacán (11), Juárez (10), Centro, Tabasco (8) and Tijuana (8).
  • By population rate, Morelos leads with 2.07 feminicides per 100,000 residents, followed by Tabasco (1.58) and Sinaloa (1.49).
  • Victims include 330 adult women and 36 girls and adolescents, with age unspecified in 28 cases in the January–July tally.
  • Rights organizations report that only 24.6% of female homicides are investigated as feminicide, while authorities logged 170,643 emergency calls related to violence against women in the same period.
