Overview

  • The federal Digital Transformation Agency is actively developing a government-issued electronic toll tag following President Claudia Sheinbaum’s July 10 announcement.
  • The device’s specifications have been finalized to eliminate cash payments and require no minimum balance, making it accessible to occasional users.
  • The new toll tag will replicate the Mexico City Integrated Mobility card model to ensure a proven framework for nationwide deployment.
  • It will be integrated into CAPUFE’s Cero Efectivo cashless lanes, which became mandatory on major highways starting July 7, to cut existing wait times of up to 90 minutes.
  • The project, informally called TAG del Bienestar, is spearheaded by Digital Transformation Agency head José Peña Merino.
