Overview
- Presented Tuesday, June 16, 2026, INEGI’s ENDUTIH 2025 found 104.9 million internet users, equal to 86.1% of the population and an increase of about 43 million users since 2015.
- Smartphones are the dominant access device with roughly 97% of mobile users, smart TV use rose from about 5% in 2015 to roughly 50% in 2025, and household computer ownership remains limited at about 44.7%.
- The urban–rural gap has narrowed from about 32 points in 2017 to 14 points in 2025, but internet use still stands at about 88.9% in urban areas versus 75.2% in rural areas with lowest rates in Chiapas, Oaxaca and Guerrero.
- Use of the internet for everyday communication and entertainment is widespread—over 90% use it to communicate and nearly 90% for entertainment—while digital-economy activities lag with roughly 21–22 point rural gaps for online payments, purchases and banking.
- INEGI officials say the priority must shift from expanding basic connectivity to raising digital skills, reducing cost and equipment barriers, and turning access into better outcomes in education, work and commerce.
