Mexico Publishes 2026 Fuel IEPS Update as Officials Reaffirm Pledge to Keep Regular Gas Under 24 Pesos

Officials say the inflation‑linked tax update will be absorbed under a voluntary stabilization pact with fuel retailers to keep pump prices steady.

Overview

  • The Finance Ministry published new per‑liter IEPS quotas in the official gazette effective January 1, 2026: Magna 6.7001 pesos, Premium 5.6579, and diesel 7.3634.
  • Hacienda and the Energy Ministry stated the automatic adjustment will not raise the final price for consumers and does not alter the national price‑stabilization strategy.
  • The strategy, in place since March 1, 2025, is a voluntary agreement to keep regular gasoline below 24 pesos per liter, and authorities say 98% of station operators renewed it in September.
  • Oversight is interagency, involving SHCP, Sener, SEMARNAT, the National Energy Commission, SAT, Profeco, ASEA, and Pemex.
  • The update also sets new IEPS quotas for LPG components, including 10.1248 centavos per liter for propane and 13.1025 for butane, while border regions continue under separate incentives.
