Mexico, Peru and Argentina Issue Weekend Weather Alerts as Front and Monsoon Fuel Storms

Forecasters warn overlapping systems will bring dangerous flooding, high winds, elevated surf through the weekend.

Overview

  • Mexico’s SMN/CONAGUA forecasts heavy to very heavy rain, hail, thunderstorms and strong winds from the interaction of Cold Front No. 4, the Mexican monsoon and a mid‑level cyclonic circulation.
  • Rainfall totals of 50–150 mm are possible in regions including Veracruz, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, Puebla, Estado de México and Mexico City, with risks of floods, landslides and rapid river rises.
  • Local authorities activated targeted measures: CDMX issued yellow/orange rain alerts on Sept. 25, Sonora’s Protección Civil warned of storms and gusts over 60 km/h, and most Jalisco beaches carry red flags with only a zone of Playa de los Muertos open.
  • Tropical Cyclone Narda remains offshore but continues to generate elevated seas, with waves of 2–3 meters along the Baja California Pacific coast and 1.5–2.5 meters from Sinaloa to Michoacán.
  • Concurrent regional alerts include Senamhi’s orange wind notice for Lima and 10 Peruvian coastal regions and Argentina’s SMN advisories for storms, rain and strong winds across about 20–21 provinces, with Mendoza reporting outages and a wind‑related fatality.
