Overview
- The Secretaría de Cultura and INAH opened the Museo Arqueológico del Puuc in Kabah and the Museo Ichkaantijoo/Centro de Visitantes in Dzibilchaltún this weekend.
- The Puuc museum displays 251 cultural goods drawn from two decades of excavations and was built on 2,739 square meters with a visitor route that echoes Uxmal’s Cuadrángulo de las Monjas.
- The Puuc project cost about 227 million pesos with 211.6 million for construction and equipment and 15.9 million for a new 196 m² services unit meant to improve visitor care at Kabah.
- The Dzibilchaltún facility holds 304 pieces, cost about 180 million pesos, and will offer free entry to neighboring communities to boost local access to heritage.
- Officials say the new sites will strengthen INAH’s research and conservation work, broaden cultural tourism in the Puuc and northern Yucatán, and return archaeological knowledge to local Maya communities.
