Mexico Opens Registration for Tortillerías Under National Corn–Tortilla Agreement

Tortillerías can now register at state agricultural offices to secure subsidized corn, discounted flour and financing before implementing a six-month, 5% price reduction

Overview

  • Registration opened July 28 for formal tortillerías, which can enroll in person or via hybrid processes at state agricultural offices, Rural Development Districts and CADER centers.
  • Enrolled businesses will receive up to 25,000 tons of white corn at a subsidized rate of 6,000 pesos per ton alongside discounted nixtamalized corn flour.
  • The program offers access to financing through FIRA intermediaries, certification training and a official “tortillería adherida” seal.
  • Registered tortillerías will be listed in a national directory of fair-priced outlets to help consumers identify participating establishments.
  • The government has pledged a gradual 5% reduction in tortilla prices over six months tied to market conditions under a coordinated effort involving key ministries and Profeco.
