Mexico Opens Inaugural Peace Fair in Michoacán to Advance P’urhépecha Justice Plan

It brings 20 federal agencies into P’urhépecha communities to address structural violence through integrated services.

Overview

  • The Secretariat of the Interior inaugurated the first Feria de Paz in Santa Fe de la Laguna on August 7 under the Plan de Justicia para el Pueblo P’urhépecha.
  • Twenty federal entities have established 30 inter-institutional service modules and two mobile medical units, including a mammography unit, to offer health care, vaccination, legal aid, identity documentation and community workshops.
  • Subsecretary Arturo Medina Padilla said at the opening that “peace is built from the territory with justice, health, education and dignity,” underscoring local engagement.
  • A ceremonial handover of the national flag to the Guardia Comunitaria honored the dignity, history and resistance of the P’urhépecha people.
