Overview
- Pilot modules in CDMX’s RENAPO Juárez office and in Veracruz municipalities — Xalapa, Coatzacoalcos, Poza Rica, Misantla and Tantima — now accept biometric CURP applications, capturing fingerprints, iris scans, digital photos and electronic signatures.
- Applicants must present a certified birth certificate, valid photo ID, printed CURP, proof of address not older than three months and an active email; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian with identification.
- Secondary regulations on data protection and interagency access are being finalized to safeguard personal biometric information on the Plataforma Única de Identidad.
- The biometric CURP retains its traditional 18-character alphanumeric format and existing character-substitution rules, such as replacing “Ñ” with “X” to ensure compatibility and avoid offensive combinations.
- Voluntary nationwide issuance begins October 14–16, 2025, with the biometric CURP set to become mandatory for all official procedures by February 2026.
