Overview
- The biometric CURP took effect on July 17 and is presently available only through in-person enrollment at pilot modules in Veracruz, Mexico City and the State of Mexico
- No online processing is yet possible as Llave MX and Llave CDMX platforms remain under development with no confirmed launch date
- Starting October 16, 2025, citizens nationwide can apply free of charge at 145 modules located in civil registry offices, RENAPO branches and SEGOB facilities
- Initial registration is voluntary and not required for school enrollment but will become compulsory for all public and private transactions in February 2026
- The enhanced credential consolidates existing INE, SAT and SRE biometric data into a single ID to strengthen security, streamline services and support missing person investigations
