Overview

• SEP reported UTyP enrollment grew from 348,000 to 378,000 students for the September–December 2025 term, including 145,000 new entrants.
• The subsystem comprises 191 universities across 31 states, representing 7% of national higher-education coverage and 10.7% within public institutions.
• Officials framed the strengthening push as a pillar of Plan México with goals to create 330,000 new higher-education places and reach 55% coverage by the end of the term.
• Authorities highlighted UTyP’s flexible model that offers shorter pathways to the workforce through technical certifications, bachelor’s degrees and engineering programs.
• At the event, SEP presented the Presea Nacional al Mérito de las Universitarias STEM, with the 2024 and 2025 editions drawing more than 450 nominations and honoring nine women.
