Mexico Marks 72 Years of Women’s Vote With ‘Violet’ Constitution and Push for Enforceable Parity

Leaders used the commemoration to pivot from symbolism to enforceable parity.

Overview

  • At the Teatro de la República in Querétaro, INE and the TEPJF presented the 2025 “Constitución con una mirada violeta,” which color-codes gender rights and parity provisions to make them easier to identify.
  • INE president Guadalupe Taddei hailed the edition’s pedagogical value and reaffirmed that democracy in Mexico “will be paritary or it will not be,” framing parity as a constitutional mandate.
  • TEPJF president Mónica Soto said “without parity, democracy is not complete” and pledged continued rulings to protect women’s political-electoral rights and to sanction conduct that undermines equality.
  • Tied to the national electoral reform consultation promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum, Michoacán Education Secretary Gabriela Molina filed a gender-focused analysis with the Presidential Commission for Electoral Reform.
  • Michoacán’s Seimujer advanced programs such as Mujeres al Poder, Las Solidarias, Jalo x las Mujeres and lactation rooms, while Congress leader Giulianna Bugarini urged vigilance against political gender violence and stereotypes.
