Overview

  • The federal deployment includes more than 10,500 Army, Air Force and National Guard personnel, with nearly 1,000 additional troops dispatched to the state.
  • The plan commits 57 billion pesos and spans three pillars that pair enforcement with development, including stronger state police and prosecutors, expanded anti-extortion units and new social and economic programs.
  • Officials said operations will target cartel extortion, drug labs and training camps, while scholarships, jobs initiatives and youth sports aim to reduce criminal recruitment.
  • President Claudia Sheinbaum will track results and give regular public updates, and she said Mexico will accept U.S. intelligence support only, not foreign forces on Mexican soil.
  • Investigators identified the 17-year-old gunman, who was killed at the scene, said others were involved and noted the state’s long-running cartel pressure on avocado and lime producers.
