Overview

  • More than 10,500 army, air force and National Guard personnel are assigned to the operation, with nearly 1,000 additional troops due Monday and nearly half focused on containing cross‑border criminal movement.
  • The plan commits 57 billion pesos (about $3.1 billion) for security institutions and social programs spanning welfare, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, jobs and scholarships.
  • Federal authorities will reinforce Michoacan’s state police and attorney general’s office and deploy added intelligence resources to build investigations and pursue arrests, officials said.
  • Mexico will accept U.S. intelligence assistance only and rejects any deployment of U.S. forces, despite offers of help from President Donald Trump.
  • Officials identified the gunman who killed Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo as 17-year-old Víctor Manuel Ubaldo, who died at the scene, and said investigations into additional suspects continue.
