Mexico Launches Mandatory Mobile Line Registration as July Suspensions Loom

The registry aims to curb phone fraud by linking each number to a verified INE or passport and CURP under new CRT rules.

Overview

  • Registration opened Jan. 9 nationwide, with carriers enabling remote and in‑store signups; Telcel’s “Vincula tu línea” portal is already live.
  • Existing users must complete linkage by June 30, 2026, or service is suspended starting July 1 with only emergency and customer‑care calls allowed while billing continues.
  • The mandate covers all numbers, including prepaid, postpaid, new activations and eSIMs, and new lines have 30 days from activation to register.
  • Individuals register with a valid INE or passport plus a certified CURP, foreigners may use a passport and temporary CURP, companies must provide RFC and representative ID, and each person can link up to 10 lines.
  • Operators must deploy identity‑validation systems and a user consultation portal by Feb. 7, and they must protect data without retaining biometrics, photos or ID copies; users should rely on official carrier links to avoid phishing.
