Mexico Launches 5.9 Billion-Peso Highway Upgrade in Mixteca Oaxaqueña

The three-year initiative has kicked off work on five priority corridors with initial funding driving job creation and early section completions.

Overview

  • The Plan General Lázaro Cárdenas targets over 1,000 km of federal and state roads to address a long-standing infrastructure deficit in the Mixteca Oaxaqueña.
  • In 2025, more than 2,000 million pesos were allocated to five key segments, including NochixtlánHuajuapan de León and Putla de GuerreroPinotepa Nacional, with 425 km slated for rehabilitation this year.
  • Caminos y Puentes Federales has already completed hydraulic concrete repairs and slope reconstructions on stretches between Oaxaca and Nochixtlán.
  • Early implementation has created 4,650 direct jobs and is expected to benefit about 4.1 million residents by cutting travel times and improving access to services.
  • Full execution runs through 2027 under the Secretariat of Infrastructure’s oversight, following directives from President Sheinbaum and coordination with state authorities.
