Mexico Launches 23rd ‘Mes del Testamento’ With Lower Notary Fees and Extended Hours

The effort focuses on legal certainty to head off inheritance conflicts, with registry notices now above 7.5 million.

Overview

  • Segob and the Colegio Nacional del Notariado Mexicano kicked off the 23rd edition under the banner “Con el testamento se heredan bienes y se hereda paz.”
  • Notaries will cut fees, offer free legal advice and open longer hours, including Saturdays, to ease access throughout September.
  • The Registro Nacional de Avisos de Testamento reports more than 7.5 million notices by mid‑August, roughly half generated during campaign periods.
  • Puebla confirmed participation with a 1,800‑peso rate this year, after reporting 1,100 wills granted in the 2024 campaign.
  • Despite seasonal spikes, only about 4.7% of Mexican adults have a will, highlighting persistent cultural and informational barriers.
