Overview

  • Mexico’s 53 consulates carried out 6,326 visits to U.S. immigration detention centers from January through August 20, averaging about 30 per day.
  • Consular teams have provided more than 13,100 legal advisories to detained Mexicans during the same period.
  • The SRE’s PALE initiative is operating with a $13.6 million budget to connect detainees with a network of external attorneys.
  • Inspections reported cold temperatures, inadequate food or blankets, overcrowding, hygiene problems and limited medical care, prompting aid deliveries and formal notices to U.S. authorities.
  • A federal judge ordered the closure of the “Alcatraz Aligater” detention facility for environmental reasons, and official data show irregular border encounters fell 91% from 3,640 to 285 between October 1, 2024 and August 20, 2025.
