Mexico Installs New Judicial Administration Body, Names Vargas Solano as President

It begins work on budgeting and judge placements under an austerity mandate.

Overview

  • The Órgano de Administración Judicial was formally installed to run the federal courts’ resources and operations, separating administrative work from judicial decision-making with a stated focus on transparency.
  • Néstor Vargas Solano was chosen as president by insaculation under the Ley Orgánica for a two-year term, joined by Surit Berenice Romero Domínguez, Lorena Josefina Pérez Romo, Catalina Ramírez Hernández and José Alberto Gallegos Ramírez.
  • Initial assignments include building the Poder Judicial’s budget for submission to the Secretaría de Hacienda and assigning newly elected judges and magistrates to their posts.
  • The court’s minister president, Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, directed the new body to apply an austerity plan that reduces salaries and benefits for senior officials.
  • Together with the Tribunal de Disciplina Judicial, the new organ replaces the Consejo de la Judicatura Federal and assumes constitutional responsibilities over court structure, career management and administrative oversight.
