Mexico Homicides Drop 24.5 Percent as Arrests and Seizures Surge

Federal forces have intensified arrests, carried out drug seizures, seized thousands of firearms, dismantled labs to drive daily killings down to nine-year lows.

Overview

  • Official data show homicides fell by 24.5 percent between October 2024 and June 2025, with the daily average dropping from 86.9 to 65.6 cases.
  • The first half of 2025 registered the lowest six-month homicide average since 2016 at 70.5 killings per day.
  • Since October 2024, federal authorities have detained 25,255 suspects for high-impact crimes, including 1,137 in the past two weeks.
  • Authorities have seized 13,275 firearms and 188 tons of drugs since October 2024 and in the last two weeks confiscated 865 weapons, 17 tons of narcotics and dismantled 20 labs.
  • Rights group Redim reports 3,426 minors were killed between January 2024 and May 2025, including 958 in the first five months of 2025.
