Mexico Finalizes National High School System Ahead of September Launch

Officials have set dual certification, expanded capacity, and technical tracks in strategic sectors to ensure smoother student transitions and job-market relevance.

Overview

  • Starting September 1, 2025, all public preparatorias will adopt a unified Marco Curricular Común to ensure academic continuity and incorporate humanistic, scientific and technical subjects with room for local curricular additions.
  • Students will choose between General and Technological tracks, both sharing the common core but differing in the depth of vocational training.
  • Graduates will earn a national Certificate of Completion and a Professional Training Certificate endorsed by UNAM, IPN, UAM and Tecnológico Nacional de México.
  • The government plans to expand capacity by 37,500 seats through 20 new schools, 33 plantel expansions and conversion of 35 secondary schools for evening sessions.
  • New technical programs in sectors from microelectronics and AI to electromobility and robotics were developed with industry partners under Plan México.
