Indemnification has begun, with construction set for January under a package largely financed by Grupo México.

Overview

  • The plan totals 2,222.6 million pesos, with 1,500 million from Grupo México plus 59 million previously deposited, 483.6 million from the federal government, and 180 million from Sonora.
  • Liquidations cover more than 651 Sección 65 miners, with payments to widows and families already being delivered directly in Cananea.
  • Environmental actions include permanent water-quality monitoring with three automatic stations and 42 manual sites, 16 new potabilization plants, 16 disinfection systems, and upgrades to four existing plants.
  • A specialized lab in Hermosillo will measure 64 parameters including heavy metals, while health investments convert the Ures facility into a 60-bed IMSS-Bienestar regional hospital with ICU, a renal center with six hemodialysis chairs, and a toxicology lab.
  • Agreements were signed on December 22, works are slated to start in January 2026, technical studies will guide soil and sediment remediation, and authorities say some workers may be evaluated for reinstatement based on age and profile.
