Mexico Extends Tourism Rebound in H1 2025 as Women Become Majority of International Air Arrivals

New government figures point to rising tourism revenue with accelerating cruise traffic.

Overview

  • Mexico welcomed 23.4 million international tourists in January–June 2025, up 7.3% year over year and 6.2% above 2019, according to Sectur.
  • Women accounted for 5.695 million international air tourists in the first half, representing 51.7% of such arrivals and a 1.8% increase versus 2024.
  • North America supplied 83% of female visitors with U.S. nationals at 68%, while female arrivals from Argentina, South Korea and China rose 29%, 25% and 13%, respectively.
  • Average spending by international air tourists reached $1,280.7 in the period, a 6.9% annual increase, as total visitor receipts climbed to $18.68 billion, up 6.3%.
  • Cruise passenger arrivals hit 5.7 million in the first half, a 9.6% rise, with $484.2 million in excursionist receipts, up 11.3%.
