Mexico Expands 2025 HPV Vaccination to Boys, Sets 2.5 Million-Dose Goal

The campaign deploys a single-dose nonavalent vaccine aligned with WHO/PAHO guidance to accelerate prevention of HPV-related cancers.

Overview

  • The health ministry is delivering the free campaign through schools and public health units, with support from WHO/PAHO and national logistics programs such as Rutas de la Salud and IMSS.
  • For the first time, boys in fifth grade or age 11 are included alongside girls to broaden HPV transmission control.
  • Priority groups also cover adolescents 12–16 without prior vaccination, people 11–49 living with HIV, and adolescents receiving care for sexual violence.
  • Authorities report 960,548 doses administered nationwide during Oct. 25–31, described as 42.6% of the annual goal.
  • Since 2024, 2,229,617 HPV doses have been administered as the program scales up toward the 2.5 million target for 2025.
