Mexico Details Six U.S. Consular Protection Actions Funded by Migrant Lottery

Funds will be administered by the Foreign Ministry’s North America Unit under Roberto Velasco, with public progress reports every three months.

Overview

  • Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente said 115.9 million pesos from the Sept. 15 Lotería Nacional draw will be dedicated to urgent support for Mexicans in the United States.
  • The package centers on legal representation and guidance in immigration and criminal matters, including court defense, deportation cases, aid for detained minors and strengthened payment of immigration bonds.
  • Capacity will be reinforced at 11 high‑demand consulates—Brownsville, Detroit, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Miami, New Brunswick, New Orleans, Omaha, Presidio and San Bernardino.
  • To expand service delivery, consulates will hire trusted community members to assist with protection work and outreach.
  • Additional actions include protection visits to detention, work centers and prisons, mobile jornadas in remote areas, disaster‑response support and wider distribution of preventive information.
