Overview

• Mexico marked International Day of Indigenous Peoples by activating the constitutional reform to Article 2 that recognizes Indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities as autonomous, rights-bearing entities
• The 12.374 billion-peso FAISPIAM allocation has been distributed to over 20,000 communities via Banco del Bienestar cards without state or municipal intermediaries
• Community assemblies elected projects spanning potable water, sanitation, electrification, education, health facilities and housing improvements
• FAISPIAM bypasses existing administrative layers to grant communities direct control over federal infrastructure funds
• The program aligns with President Sheinbaum’s Fourth Transformation agenda and builds on pilot initiatives launched since 2022
