Mexico Declares 2026 the Year of Margarita Maza Parada

The decree mandates the legend on federal paperwork throughout the year.

Overview

  • The Diario Oficial published the decree on December 29, setting its effect from January 1 to December 31, 2026.
  • All federal documentation must carry the phrase “2026, Año de Margarita Maza Parada” during the period.
  • The Interior Ministry will coordinate a program of commemorative activities with the federal executive, legislature, judiciary and autonomous bodies.
  • States, municipalities and other demarcations are invited to adhere to the yearlong observance.
  • The initiative, advanced by President Claudia Sheinbaum and approved by Congress, complements 2025 reforms that added 24 women to the civic calendar, including a half‑staff day on Maza Parada’s death date.
