Mexico Confirms Domestic-Only January–February Friendlies vs Panama, Bolivia and Iceland
The domestic-only tour reflects Javier Aguirre's plan to pressure-test World Cup candidates.
Overview
- The FMF scheduled Panama on January 22 at Rommel Fernández Stadium, Bolivia on January 25 at Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera in Santa Cruz, and Iceland on February 25 at Estadio La Corregidora in Querétaro.
- Because the fixtures fall outside FIFA international windows, Mexico will call only Liga MX–based players.
- FMF president Ivar Sisniega said Aguirre sought adverse environments to evaluate players and help define the 2026 World Cup roster.
- A full-strength squad is planned for March friendlies against Portugal on March 28 at the reopening of Estadio Azteca and Belgium at Soldier Field in Chicago.
- Mexico closed 2025 on a six-game winless streak and is slated to open the 2026 World Cup on June 11 against South Africa.
