Mexico Concludes 2024–25 School Year as Teachers Begin Intensive Workshops

SEP is preparing the 2025–26 school year through a streamlined 185-day calendar, region-specific vacation extensions for safety, an intensive teacher workshop in mid-July, a technical council in late August.

Overview

  • More than 23.9 million basic-education students and 1.23 million teachers began summer vacation on July 16, ending the 190-day 2024–25 cycle.
  • Teachers are required to attend a two-day Taller Intensivo para Personal Docente on July 17–18 to engage in dialogic learning and community-based teaching workshops.
  • The SEP reduced instructional days from 190 to 185 for the 2025–26 academic year to streamline the school calendar.
  • Educators will return for a five-day Consejo Técnico Escolar intensive from August 25 to 29 to complete pedagogical planning before students resume classes on September 1.
  • Several states — Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí and Yucatán — began summer break early over adverse weather; Michoacán’s SEE has guaranteed the 2025–26 cycle will proceed without interruption.
