Mexico Completes Distribution of 140 Million Free Textbooks Ahead of School Year

Distribution centers nationwide are fully stocked to equip students with free textbooks in formats ranging from indigenous languages to Braille.

Overview

  • Over 140 million free textbooks have been printed and delivered to distribution centers in all 32 states to serve more than 24 million preschool, primary and secondary students.
  • In Michoacán, over 6.3 million textbooks have reached more than 11,200 basic education schools, benefiting approximately 947,000 students.
  • A symbolic handover of 100,000 purépecha textbooks took place in Cheranástico alongside the rollout of over 100,000 indigenous-language volumes in purépecha, náhuatl, mazahua and otomí.
  • Editions in Braille and macrotipo are being distributed to ensure that students with visual impairments have full access to free educational materials.
  • The rollout under the Nueva Escuela Mexicana reform reaffirms the government’s pledge to deliver secular, free and quality education before the 2025–2026 school year begins.
