Mexico Completes 1-2 Finish in Dublin 35 km Walk as González Breaks National and NACAC Records

Both athletes met Tokyo’s 2:48 qualifying mark ahead of September’s World Championships in Japan

Overview

  • On July 13 at the Dublin Race Walking Challenge, Alegna González completed the women’s 35 km event in 2:44:28 to claim gold and establish new Mexican and NACAC records.
  • Ximena Serrano followed in 2:44:45 to secure silver and her own direct qualification under the 2:48:00 entry standard for Tokyo 2025.
  • González’s mark shaved more than six minutes off the previous Mexican record of 2:50:43 set by Alejandra Ortega at Budapest 2023 and surpassed Robyn Stevenson’s 2:49:29 NACAC benchmark.
  • The Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) publicly celebrated González’s performance on its official X account, hailing her as “Orgullo Naval.”
  • Following their record-setting results, both marchers will train with Mexico’s high-performance squad for the World Athletics Championships taking place September 13–21 in Tokyo.
