Mexico City Unveils 2,026-Project Works Plan for 2026 With Major Iztapalapa Drainage Spend

Officials present the package as the next step of the city’s “second floor of the transformation” focused on visible and subsurface service upgrades.

  • Mayor Clara Brugada said the capital will enter 2026 with 2,026 public-works actions spanning water infrastructure, mobility, safety and social facilities.
  • More than 2,000 million pesos are earmarked for deep-drainage works in Iztapalapa to reduce flood risk in the city’s most flood‑prone borough.
  • Water projects outlined include 310 well rehabilitations, six potabilization plants, 34 km of distribution lines, 10 km of collectors, 100 absorption wells and five wastewater‑treatment wells.
  • Transport upgrades feature Tren Ligero modernization, Trolebús Line 14 from Metro Universidad to Huipulco, a 34 km bikeway on Calzada de Tlalpan, safer‑route links and improvements to the Huipulco, Taxqueña and Universidad transfer hubs.
  • Security and social investments include 3,500 patrol vehicles, 30,000 surveillance cameras, 14 Utopías, seven Casas de las 3R, a new Clínica Condesa in Gustavo A. Madero, expansions to two migrant shelters and 300 Caminos de Mujeres Libres y Seguras.
