Mexico City To Enter 2026 With 2,026 Public Works, Led by Major Iztapalapa Drainage Investment

The portfolio spans water, mobility, security and social projects to close long‑standing service gaps.

  • Clara Brugada announced that 2,026 public-works projects are underway or starting as the city moves into 2026.
  • More than 2 billion pesos are allocated to deep-drainage works in Iztapalapa to reduce seasonal flooding.
  • The water program includes rehabilitating 310 wells, six potable-water plants, 34 km of distribution lines, 10 km of collectors, 100 absorption wells and new wastewater treatment capacity.
  • Transit plans feature modernization of the Tren Ligero (Taxqueña–Xochimilco), construction of Trolebús Line 14 (Universidad–Huipulco), a 34 km bikeway on Calzada de Tlalpan, upgrades to CETRAMs and rehabilitation of two Aztecas circuit bridges.
  • Security and social initiatives include acquiring 3,500 patrol vehicles, installing 30,000 cameras, building new SSC facilities and a police hospital, plus citywide projects such as 14 Utopías, interventions in 120 markets and 300 safe routes for women.
