Mexico City Shortens Revolution Day Parade and Tightens Security as Generación Z Plans New March

Officials reconfigured the route to keep parade contingents separate from planned protests.

Overview

  • SEDENA confirmed the civic‑military parade will start at 10:00 a.m. from the Zócalo and conclude at the Monumento a la Revolución via 5 de Mayo, Eje Central, Avenida Juárez and Avenida de la República.
  • Generación Z called a second march for 11:00 a.m. from the Ángel de la Independencia to the Zócalo, while a separate call for a UNAM gathering has circulated but remains unconfirmed.
  • Transport authorities announced closures and detours, including the Metro’s Zócalo/Tenochtitlan station and Metrobús service on segments of Lines 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7, with alternatives such as Circuito Interior, Eje 1 Norte and Avenida Chapultepec.
  • The U.S. Department of State issued an alert urging people to avoid protest areas, citing that participants in the planned march also joined the November 15 protest that turned violent.
  • Authorities cite 60 injured police officers, 20 civilians treated and 18 detainees from the November 15 events, while Centro Histórico merchants estimate 500 million pesos in losses as officials pledge to prevent confrontations on November 20.
