Mexico City Sets Line 3 Metro Overhaul for December 2026 as World Cup Upgrades Advance

Overview

  • Public tendering for Line 3 is scheduled from December 2025 to March 2026 ahead of station closures starting in December 2026.
  • Modernization on Line 3 will rehabilitate electrical, hydraulic and signaling systems, upgrade fixed installations and accessibility, and procure 45 new trains.
  • Line 2 will receive about 1,730 million pesos for rehabilitation, including general overhauls of 28 NM-02 trains, station information upgrades and power, drainage and fire protection works.
  • The first stage of the Línea Cero project will launch a trolebús corridor from the Estadio Olímpico de Ciudad Universitaria to Metro Chapultepec to strengthen north–south connectivity along Circuito Interior.
  • Ongoing Line 1 works keep Juanacatlán, Tacubaya and Observatorio closed in September, with RTP shuttle routes operating and free transfers to the Metro enabled.
