Mexico City Sets First-Stage Rehabilitation of Tlalpan Underpasses for October

Officials say merchants who cleared the corridors will be able to return to improved spaces without paying quotas.

Overview

  • The program covers 34 pedestrian underpasses along Calzada de Tlalpan, with 12 prioritized between Plaza Tlaxcoaque and the Chabacano Metro station.
  • Services agency Servimet will carry out the works to modernize facilities and reorganize on-site commerce under oversight from the city government and the public works secretariat.
  • Authorities have begun removing vendor furniture after agreements for the voluntary handover of spaces to prepare for construction.
  • Secretary of Government César Cravioto led site walkthroughs, met with stallholders, and pledged that they can return to their work areas once rehabilitation is finished.
  • A parallel project, the Gran Tenochtitlán bikeway along Tlalpan, is underway and reported 25% complete, according to the capital’s public works chief.
