Mexico City Sets 2025 Día de Muertos Program: UNAM Mega Ofrenda, Centro Histórico’s 200 Altars, Mixquic Alumbrada

Organizers finalize dates, themes, access details to pair the UNESCO-recognized observance with clear visitor guidance.

Overview

  • UNAM’s mega ofrenda will be installed at the Museo Universum esplanade from October 31 to November 2 with the theme “Migraciones, exilios, refugio y desplazamientos.”
  • The Centro Histórico’s Festival de Ofrendas y Catrinas runs October 28 to November 3 with about 200 altars and a theme marking 700 years since the founding of Tenochtitlan, closing with the merchant-led Catrina Fest runway.
  • Museo Kaluz hosts the Festival del Pan de Muerto on October 18–19 at set sessions (10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00), with tastings and activities; entry costs 180 pesos per person and capacity is limited.
  • City museums will mount seasonal installations in late October and early November, including the Museo de Arte Popular, Franz Mayer and San Ildefonso, while Museo Anahuacalli stages its “Cacao para todos” program October 30–November 2 in Coyoacán.
  • Official timing guidance notes returning souls from October 28 with dedications by day (tragic deaths on Oct. 28, unbaptized children on Oct. 30–31, children and youths on Nov. 1, adults on Nov. 2), as San Andrés Mixquic prepares its Nov. 2 candlelit alumbrada.
