Transport officials have published RTP shuttle schedules and issued notices that five stations—Tasqueña, Las Torres, Ciudad Jardín, La Virgen and Xotepingo—will close ahead of expansion starting July 28. From July 28 to August 31 the light rail will operate only between Xochimilco and Nezahualpilli, with free RTP buses covering the Nezahualpilli–Tasqueña segment. Phase 2 begins on September 1 with a full closure of the Tasqueña terminal for work on a new platform, a track change system and upgrades to electromechanical infrastructure, lighting and accessibility. The 200 million peso investment includes 17 new tram units and aims to boost daily capacity from 110,000 to 230,000 trips ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The project is part of a broader push to modernize the city’s public transport network ahead of major international events.
