Mexico City Raises Route and Corridor Fares by 1.50 Pesos as New Rates Take Effect

The move followed late-night talks with transport leaders, with enforcement tied to safety and service standards under city oversight.

Overview

  • The increase was published in a BIS edition of the Gaceta Oficial on November 1 and took effect one day later, with operators now charging the updated fares.
  • New prices by distance: microbuses and vans cost 7.50 pesos up to 5 km, 8.00 from 5–12 km, and 9.00 beyond 12 km; buses cost 8.50 up to 12 km and 9.50 beyond; corridor buses charge a flat 9.50, with a 20% night surcharge from 23:00 to 06:00.
  • The adjustment applies only to concessioned route and corridor services, leaving government-operated systems such as Metro, Metrobús and Tren Ligero unchanged.
  • Authorities conditioned the hike on strict compliance: permanent display of the new fare as a prerequisite, visible type C license, no tinted windows, liability insurance, visible plates, maintenance checks, working cameras/panic buttons/GPS, uniforms and training, with verification and complaint channels via Invea, Semovi, Locatel and Vigimovi.
  • Transport leaders had sought a 2‑peso increase and a diesel subsidy; the agreement instead offers up to 450,000 pesos per unit for fleet renewal, and experts caution the modest rise mainly offsets higher costs rather than delivering structural improvements.
