Mexico City Raises Concessioned Transport Fares by 1.50 Pesos Effective Sunday

The negotiated increase is conditioned on stricter safety and service standards, with transport leaders noting a pending program to help replace aging units after their fuel subsidy request was rejected.

Overview

  • Following late‑night talks, the capital published the fare update in a special Gaceta Oficial on Saturday, making it effective on Sunday, Nov. 2, for route and corridor services and excluding Metrobús.
  • New fares are 7.50 pesos (first 5 km), 8.00 (5–12 km) and 9.00 (over 12 km) for microbuses/vans; 8.50 (up to 12 km) and 9.50 (over 12 km) for buses; and a 9.50 peso flat fare on corridors, with a 20% surcharge overnight (23:00–06:00).
  • Operators must display the updated tariff, carry a visible Type C license, remove tinted windows, maintain civil liability insurance, show plate numbers, keep vehicles in good condition, and ensure cameras, panic buttons and GPS work.
  • Drivers are required to wear uniforms and attend training, and authorities said noncompliance can be reported via Locatel, with Semovi and other agencies tasked with oversight and enforcement.
  • The agreement followed suspended blockade plans by FAT, Mova and CISA; leaders accepted the 1.50‑peso rise, said no fuel subsidy was granted, and reported up to 450,000 pesos in support per unit for fleet replacement to be detailed later.
