Mexico City Raids Net 7 Suspected La Unión Tepito Members

Officials cast the coordinated searches as part of a broader push to dismantle groups driving violence in the capital.

Overview

  • Four simultaneous searches in Venustiano Carranza, Cuauhtémoc, Iztacalco and Gustavo A. Madero followed investigative work and citizen complaints about drug storage and distribution.
  • The SSC and Mexico City prosecutors led the operation with support from the Navy, Defense Ministry and National Guard, according to Security Secretary Pablo Vázquez.
  • Police seized suspected cocaine and marijuana across the sites, including roughly one kilogram of cocaine in Gustavo A. Madero and hundreds of retail-size doses at the other locations.
  • The targeted properties were sealed and placed under police protection, and the seven detainees were transferred to the Public Ministry for processing.
  • Authorities say the detainees belong to a La Unión Tepito cell linked to retail drug sales, extortion, kidnapping and homicide, with inquiries continuing to define individual roles and charges.
