Mexico City Puts 1.50-Peso Fare Hike for Concessioned Transport Into Effect

City officials tied the adjustment to strict safety and service standards with enforcement and complaint channels to ensure compliance.

Overview

  • The increase was published in a BIS edition of the Gaceta Oficial and takes effect the day after publication, covering ruta and corredor services but not Metro, Metrobús, Trolebús, Cablebús or Tren Ligero.
  • Updated fares set 7.50, 8.00 and 9.00 pesos for microbuses and vagonetas by distance, 8.50 and 9.50 pesos for buses by distance, and a 9.50-peso flat fare on corredores, with a 20% surcharge from 23:00 to 06:00.
  • Operators must display the authorized tariff, hold a visible Type C license, remove tinted windows, keep liability insurance current, show plate numbers, pass mechanical and safety checks, wear uniforms and complete training; failure voids the increase for that unit.
  • SEMOVI and the Instituto de Verificación Administrativa will supervise compliance, pricing decals are being distributed, and users can report irregularities via Locatel and SEMOVI/Vigimovi channels.
  • The agreement followed transport groups’ push for a 2‑peso rise and a fuel subsidy; the city instead paired the 1.50‑peso hike with supports of up to 450,000 pesos per unit for fleet renewal and estimated a monthly user impact of roughly 30–45 pesos.
