Mexico City Opens Six New Agua Bienestar Plants to Produce 12,000 Garrafones Daily

Officials frame the expansion as a low-cost, rights-based supply for families with the greatest need.

  • The additions bring the network to 11 purification plants in operation with a weekly output target of 72,000 garrafones serving 400 colonias.
  • Production runs Monday through Saturday with distribution supported by 20 delivery units, each capable of carrying up to 600 garrafones per day.
  • New facilities include Tanque Cerro (Iztapalapa), Xaltepec and San Luis 5 (Xochimilco), Miguel Alemán (Miguel Hidalgo), Ciudad Deportiva 1 (Venustiano Carranza) and Xotepingo 6 C (Coyoacán).
  • Agua Bienestar garrafones are priced at 5 pesos per 20 liters as a publicly provided alternative to market rates.
