Mexico City Opens Drop-Off Sites for Christmas Trees and Poinsettias Through Mid-February

Materials must arrive free of decorations to allow processing into compost for city green projects.

Overview

  • SEDEMA began the post-holiday collection on Jan. 6, with sites operating citywide into mid-February.
  • Bosque de San Juan de Aragón (Puerta 7) accepts trees and poinsettias from Jan. 6 to Feb. 15, Tuesday to Sunday, 8:00–14:00.
  • Additional drop-offs include Mercado de Trueque on Jan. 11 (8:00–13:00) and Feb. 8 at Parque Tezozómoc for poinsettias, plus Parque Ecológico de Xochimilco all January, 10:00–16:00.
  • CCA Yautlica (Iztapalapa), CCA Acuexcomatl (Xochimilco) and CCA Ecoguardas (Tlalpan) receive poinsettias throughout January.
  • Residents must remove lights, plastics, cables, nails and paper so the material can be processed into compost and vegetative cover that advances circular-economy goals.
